With limited options available in Safety Harbor and the surrounding area, The Sandwich on Main was a pleasant surprise. The Cuban, while not traditional, was tasty. Only the bread for the Cuban and the pork were made on site. A few good craft beers such as Bell's Two Hearted and Jai Alai were available, but the craft selection still was small and weak overall. The staff seemed pleasant and small town-like on my visit. If I could, I would rate the restaurant 3 1/2 stars for a good sandwich. I would be cautious of a decline in quality of the sandwiches since the establishment has only been open a short time.

After 5 visits and 4 different sandwich choices I'm giving this joint 5 stars. Turkey Tom is awesome. Has Brie and cherry spread and is hot pressed. Italian has super fresh bread and meats are fresh. Cuban is unique and tasty. Caution: if you get chips, the Mamma Zummas revenge are insanely spicy. I got through half a bag. The rest of the chips are safe. Awesome cookies. Flavor and size and consistency is soft. Live a good soft and fresh CCC. Highly recommend. Also has lots of unique soda beer and wine options.

Stop for late lunch. Ordered ham and swiss on hoggie roll. Bread was the kind roll you would buy at supermarket . It was soft but it was not very good. There was only about 5 to 6 pcs of ham , very thin . There was two layers of swiss . But you really good not see the ham when the sandwich was closed. Very thin sandwich.i spent about 13.50 for sandwich ,gourmet chips, and gourmet soda. Not worth it. There dead to me.

Anyone old enough to remember those stacked sandwiches that Dagwood Bumstead used to eat in the comic strips will get a kick out of the double-decker, build-it-yourself sandwich here. Can't get your mouth open wide enough to bite it. But that's not the best sandwich here. Get one pressed on the homemade Portuguese bread. This great new spot on quaint Main Street in Safety Harbor opened a few months ago. Make your own sandwiches from lists of ingredients. A selection of craft beers (in cans and bottles) as well as some unusual soft drinks from around the country (ginger ales, root beers, and others), Specialty chips, too. . Friendly staff every time we visit. Tried the roast beef, tried the Chipotle Chicken special - pressed on homemade cheddar bread with cheddar cheese, tomato and guacamole; tried a create your own grilled cheese stack with cheddar, provolone brie, tomato, and cherry jam. The pastrami on rye is good. And take in the Midnight Cuban. The person who only gave this place three stars judged a sandwich shop by a bean burrito - so go figure.

This sandwich shop is amazing !!! I come to Clearwater twice a year from Indianapolis and this place is always a must visit when I am in town. Amazing staff and great food. If in the Tampa, Clearwater area...a must visit !!!

This place is awesome. The sandwiches are the best. My favorite is the good Gouda. I did not think I was going to like it but the raisins make the sandwich and who would have known all those flavors where going to taste so great together. The shop is very nice and clean. They have a bunch of different soda in a bottle which is pretty cool because you don't find that anywhere. The folks who own the place are really nice and are very involved in the community. Great place and you would be doing yourself a favor by going to Safety Harbor and getting yourself a sandwich.

Best sandwich in town! Order the Reuben or quinoa salad and you won't be disappointed!

Decent food. Wonderful vegetarian options - a rare thing. However, the service and consistency are terrible. I've tried to eat lunch at the Sandwich on Main five separate times now. I really wanted to give it a try. Every time I go, there's always another excuse: "We ran out of the quinoa cashew" "We're out of the Brie" "Our delivery didn't come in" "We're short staffed so we have no drivers" "Sorry, we're running behind" (after waiting an hour for a mere sandwich). I know it's a mom and pop place, but it's hard to support it when the service is unreliable. It's a shame. It's really a cute place. But I'd rather go somewhere that will actually serve me what it claims to have on the menu (instead of giving me excuses).

The Sandwiches we all had were great! They came with a side of bagged potato chips and slaw...but the slaw was not even a 1/4 cup. It was really good and we would have enjoyed at least a 1/2 cup. It was very odd the small amount! Also they have a nice selection of nice beers too but in bottle. Would go back because the sandwiches were great!

I tried their Cuban. Kudos to this quaint corner sammie shop that recently opened in what many consider as Pinellas County's most playful main street. When you walk in, you are warmly greeted and can see an array of brews and locally made items such as chips, jams and dressings. The industrial infused shabby chic decor gives this place a cozy feel with a clean modern twist. I noticed the craftsmanship of the sandwich and pride of the employee preparing it. She went into detail about prepping the slow cooked roast pork shoulder from scratch. Into the press it went . As she skewered a garnish of two baby dills to hold my massive sandwich together, I was a bit skeptical (I am Latin and very picky about my Cubans). TASTE: It's all in the bread and pork. So I'm used to Cubans on toasty, buttery, crunchy, crumbly Cuban bread. Well today I learned that it's OK for traditional to have a twist. Perfectly sliced (boars head I think..) deli meats, a generous portion of mojo roast pork, and all the other traditional fixins' for a Cuban, on their own fresh Portuguese muffin bread. I was shocked at how divine this unusual type of bread tasted. I feel like they thought outside the box on this one. Why not? Everyone and their grandmother in Tampa Bay makes "Cubans" trying to mimic the real thing. The Sandwich's Cuban cannot be compared. It's just an overall party of flavors in every bite. The way food should be. This sandwich is huge, I took half home and my husband tried the other half. CONS: The only complaint I have is that for the price, I should get chips and a drink, or at least a drink. There is another restaurant down the road that makes a really good traditional Cuban for the same price and offer a more extensive menu as well as bar environment. I will not name it since today it's all about The Sandwich on Main. Still, I hope that they will morph along with the ever changing Main Street and keep the Harborites continually interested. This cool little joint deserves it! Recommendations: I recommend this place for the foodie that's sick of the common copy cat versions of peoples takes on popular "original" sandwiches. Service is awesome. The environment is very cool. Perfect spot for a relaxing early dinner or a lunch date. The brew and beverage selection is unique and tasteful.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and stylish this deli was. You walk in and end up getting consumed in looking at all of the different bottled sodas and beers that are available. On this trip I didn't go for a specialty soda to keep it some what healthy. I ended up ordering a veggie bean burrito which was pressed. it included a bean sauce, a habanero mango salsa, cheese and some veggies. The flavors were wonderful and I would order the same thing again. I even picked up some home made chips in a cute little bag. They were fabulous! For the husband I brought him back a pressed pastrami on rye with a mustard dressing. While eating it he kept commenting how good the mustard dressing was and even showed me a few times by pulling apart the sandwich. I tried a bite and it was a great combination. Give this place a try. I've been disappointed with many of the other spots in Safety Harbor so I certainly hope this one is here to stay. Do not forget to pick up a bag of the home made chips!

Perfectly constructed sandwiches made on bread baked fresh daily. I'd come back to Safety Harbor just to visit this shop. And, I'll have to come back, because they were sold out of Mom's homemade chocolate chip cookies! Also, an excellent selection of interesting sodas (Key Lime Cream Soda?!), wine and beer. Small, perfectly appointed seating area in back. Best of luck to this new enterprise!

Very good Buffalo chicken sandwich, perfect blend of ingredients, not overloaded with sauce like most places. The homemade chips were good and great variety of beverages. Just wish the cheese sandwich had the option to add bacon, but that might just be me.

Loved this sandwich shop! We happened to stop by when we were in town and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Our sandwiches (turkey tom sans turkey and the reuben) were amazing. I love that it is a family business and that they use quality ingredients and much of it is from scratch - hard to find these days and the owner we talked to was lovely. This place is a gem and we will definitely be back when we are in town.

Tried this place on a whim Have been back three times since. Unique, fresh and funky with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Enjoyed a delicious jasmine ginger ale this time around. Make sure you don't leave with out a chocolate chip cookie either. Awesome place!

We have been here a couple of times and both were great. The sandwiches are large and made to order with fresh ingredients. No Subway here! The Route 11 chips are tasty and they have a huge selection of artisan beers and unusual sodas. The interior is small but cute and clean. Service is very friendly.

Cute little place on main street in safety harbor. The decor was very hip and clean. It is a very small establishment, but the space is very well thought out. It was a gorgeous day when we were eating there, and the 2 outdoor tables were already taken. Not sure if it would work, but maybe add a back porch for additional seating? I had the Cuban and it was delicious. The chips were homemade and I enjoyed the selection of craft sodas and beers (the walls are lined with them so that you can see many of the choices...not just listed on a menu). The staff was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and quick to serve on a bust Saturday afternoon. The chocolate chip cookies (as many others have on yelp have agreed) were the perfect dessert...somebody on staff really knows how to bake the perfect cookie

Not your same old boring sandwich shop. Lots of interesting drinks to choose from. I had Lemmy Sparkling lemonade for the first time and loved it. Also has an interesting assortment of sandwiches that you can get as a half combined with soup or a salad. And of course there are the potato chips!

Great sandwich place in Downtown Safety Harbor! Perfect place for lunch on a sunny afternoon and then enjoy the shops in the area. Place is clean, staff is very friendly and accommodating, good prices AND the bread....THE BREAD! is phenomenal. You cannot go wrong with this quaint sandwich shop..

I love it here. I stopped here for lunch prior to meeting a realtor while looking for rentals. As cliche as it may sound this little sandwich shop helped make my decision to rent a place in Safety Harbor. It just made me feel like I was in the right spot. I had "The Main Beef" and it was amazing. I can't wait to move in next week so I can frequent this place quite often and try so many other sandwiches.

Phenomenal! Five visits and consistently high quality. I'd compare the sandwiches to the quality of Wright's Gourmet in South Tampa. Cuban, Reuben and Main Beef all excellent. Chocolate chip cookie is very yummy and brownie incredible! Ambiance and service earn five stars, too!

This new sandwich shop on Main Street in Safety Harbor is a MUST try. I love sandwiches and they have great takes on classics and their own creations are delightful. In addition to the amazing sandwiches they are stocked full of fun beer and sodas. I took home a Ginger Ale Jasmine Tea and it was quite tasty. I also love the variety of chips they serve. Try the Mama Zuma for the spiciest chips you'll ever eat. Be warned - they are HOT. For my meal, I had the Italian and it was deeelicious! Soft bread served with with all the Italian meats, cheese, onions, tomatoes, and dressing and mayo. I'm not really doing it justice in the description but it was so, so, so good! For dessert we took home one of the most scrumptious cookies I've ever eaten. A huge chocolate chip cookie that melted in your mouth and was moist and buttery. Drool. This place deserves to stick around and since it's new I'm all about spreading the word on it. Try it out. You won't be disappointed!

The best sandwich shop in the Bay Area. My wife and I have made this place our go-to on any given lazy weekend afternoon. You won't find a better group of people running this quaint, craft sandwich shop, and I'd challenge you to find a better sandwich. I have now had just about every sandwich on their menu, and not a single one of them has disappointed (My favorite has been The Main Beef). Their craft soda / beer menu is extensive, and the prices are fair. If you find yourself in the Safety Harbor area, don't miss out on this lunch spot.

Its a cute place for lunch in downtown safety harbor. With only 4 tables, and tables outside it is tight but has great food and service. If you enjoy great quality food this is the place to go. After lunch you can take a great stroll through safety harbors little shops.

This place is vegetarian friendly, but nothing of any real substance if your looking for whole healthy options. It was delicious though and very filling, just a bit too decadent to be a staple place for me. That said, I would definitely come back and recommend for a fun lunch with partner friends or coworkers. The staff is very friendly and served us well.

Had lunch here this afternoon. Plenty of craft beer choices and unique sodas. My girlfriend ordered the grill cheese and a cup of tomato soup and I had the "midnight cuban". My lady's soup was practically marinara sauce. Thick and chunky like that you put on pasta. Her sandwich however was delicious. She had a diet black berry soda as well which was very good. The midnight cuban I ordered tasted great as well. I had a craft beer (3 blonde daughters) which I recommend you avoid. Trust me, pick a different beer. Reason for three stars is the cost of the meal and the attitude of our waitress. For the Cuban, half grill cheese and cup of marinara ("tomato soup"), one beer and one soda the bill was $30.00. I immediately began looking for the window I broke. You can get a better lunch cheaper multiples of other places. Our waitress who was a teenage girl was not informative of the menu or the drinks. She had this snotty almost embarrassed to be working at a sandwich shop persona about her. She got a 2$ tip. If you read this sweetheart, cracking a smile or even saying hello to your customers before saying "do you know what you want" might get you 20% of the bill. We will try again. Definitely not eat there but will take out. Also well know better than to order the soup.

To all my Gluten Free Yelpers this is a must visit spot. Great selection of unique sodas and beers - The Staff is knowledgeable and can accommodate any vegan request and the also sell a variety of gourmet chips. The Homemade cookies are very delicious and the best handcrafted sandwiches on very tasty bread. The Sandwich shop on Main is truly a gem in downtown Safety Harbor and corner bistro. The owner Sally is sooo delightful and truly a pleasure to converse with. Our waitress Tori was amazing and very friendly and explained the whole menu of possibilities to us from their signature favorites to choosing our own fillings, toppings and condiments Checkout my pics do not leave the spot without trying the Homemade cookies baked daily by the owner Sally and she only makes a limited amounts so you are guaranteed fresh baked daily chocolate chip cookies. My overall experience was truly exceptional...!!!

Delicious food, great menu. A rare gem of a sandwich shop. I wish NY had more shops like this. The owner is fantastic and the wait staff is super friendly, genuine and hate working. If you're in Safety Harbor and hungry, get your butt in there for a wonderful lunch.

It's a given that the sandwiches are GREAT......but the cookies are off the chain!!!! AWESOME!! Stop reading and go! You heard me, GO! NOW, or trust me, the cookies will be gone.

I came here with my 8 and 5 year old boys. Staff was playing a song using the f word over and over. We had to request them to change their music. She told me she could not control what happens on Pandora. Owners should not let the punk staff run the restaurant. We will not be returning. We were also a party of 6 and could not put the tables together even though the restaurant was empty . In addition, server brought cans of cokes inside the cups we were suppose to drink out of.

For some reason, I decided to get sandwiches yesterday night. Yes, I know I can make a sandwich at home but hey, I didn't feel like it! OK? I popped in to this very clean and stylish shop in Safety Harbor. Two sandwiches and a soup to share would do the trick! Meanwhile, I explored the incredibly nice area in back for indoor dining. Nobody was there but I wouldn't hesitate to dine in next time. In back, they have an assortment of unique fruit preserves, salsas, and butters for sale. I really want to try the pumpkin butter but I'm not sure why... As for sandwiches, my pastrami Reuben with coleslaw instead of kraut was plenty tasty. My wife's muffuletta did not yield any complaints. Our soup, tomato basil, was also apparently homemade and tasty. If the hankering for a sandwich ever returns, I will not hesitate to return either!

I stopped in here shortly after they opened up in March 2014 to grab a sandwich to-go. I went with the MUFFALITTLE, and it did not disappoint. Recently, I stopped in for lunch and actually ate inside. This time around I went with the Italian, which was good, but the bun needed some help. Let's just say it wasn't very fresh. An oversight, I'm sure. They do offer beer and wine here, plus a vast array of unique craft sodas from around the U.S., so don't go in here expecting to get a Sprite or Mountain Dew with your food. Instead, you'll be offered a comparable substitute, which will more than likely surprise you with flavor and real sugar. All-in-all, this place is a great alternative to the chain sandwich shops and I look forward to another visit in the near future.

This gem, located on main street in downtown Safety Harbor, is a must try for people who love a good sandwich. The food was amazing... Every single bite made me want more. The staff was more than welcoming and friendly, and the atmosphere was a bit divey and welcoming. I loved it and I plan on returning regularly.

Simply Delicious! From their quaint decor to their off the beaten path menu, you'll find something that you like at Sandwich on Main. I tried their Muffalittle, while my friend had the tomato bisque and a cheese sandwich. Both of the sandwiches were to die for. I've not had such a good Muffaletta sandwich since I came back from the big easy! And the soup was tasty too! The only issue I really had was the service, as it was kind of spotty. *shrug* It was a festival weekend, so I can give a pass on that one. The inside tables each have the neatest little terrarium on them... check them out when you eat inside. Don't ask for ice, as there is none, they're not "big" enough for an ice maker, or so I was told.

Very intimate atmosphere, lots of craft sodas and beers that are very tasty. The hardest part is deciding which one to have (I wish they had samples). Overall great prices and good soda. I purchased a strawberry fruit butter from American Spoon here as well. While not ordering from the food menu, this is a definite visit for any vegetarians - they have a wide selection.

The Sandwich on Main is a classic little luncheon café that specializes in deli sandwiches, salads, and homemade soups. This is a small little place right on the corner of 3rd Avenue and Main Street in downtown Safety Harbor, and it's located on the first floor of a private duplex. When you walk in the front door you'll see the main counter with the menu painted on the large chalkboard wall right behind you. This is where to place your to-go orders as well as placing your orders if you're going to sit at one of their outside tables on the main sidewalk in front of the shop. If you walk towards the back of the shop you'll find a small dining area with four tables, a little lunch counter, and waitress service. In addition to their really delicious deli sandwiches, The Sandwich is known for some very creative bottled sodas and teas -- no fountain service here; you buy your drinks one can / bottle at a time. They have a nice beer & wine selection, and also a very nice mix of salsas, jams, and jellies for sale. I ordered a cup of their homemade tomato basil soup which was excellent, and followed that with The Main Street Special sandwich which is lean pastrami and Swiss cheese pressed on fresh rye bread. What made the sandwich so delicious was the addition of the American Spoon Food whole seed mustard spread. You have the choice of ordering one of their handcrafted deli sandwiches, one of their veggie options, a custom-built sandwich to your specifications, or scrapping the bread all together and putting your favorite deli selections and toppings on top of a salad. Everything is under $10, so The Sandwich is super affordable. Great little spot in the heart of Safety Harbor!

Terrific sandwiches (the place is called "The Sandwich on Main" so they better be good, right?). Order at the counter and take it home to eat or go to the backroom and grab one of the few tables or counterspaces. I had their version of the Cuban which was excellent.

  • Sam R.

All of their sandwiches sounded amazing. I got the Chipotle Chicken sandwich with a US craft beer. I asked for extra guacamole because I love guac! I'm glad I asked for more, because even then it wasn't enough. Guac issues aside, the sandwich was wonderful. The chicken was extremely flavourful and the cheese used (a special cheddar I think) was perfect. All in all it's a great place that I'll be happy to return to for the rest of the week.

My wife and I got two sandwiches, two bags of gourmet chips, and one drink and it was $25. Now I think that's expensive, but the food quality and portion size was unbelievable. This ain't some cheap Subway sandwich shop. This shop is a nice quaint sandwich shop on Main Street. I ordered the the Blazing Buffalo sandwich and my wife ordered a single decker sandwich. Her single decker sandwich was turkey and cheese on wheat bread. The amount of meat they put on a sandwich is unbelievable. It was big enough that my wife made two meals of it. My sandwich was equally good. Shredded chicken with blue cheese crumbles in a dressing on a cheddar bread. Damn it was good. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was the price. We also ordered our food to go but there was plenty of room to eat in. We loved it.

Great sandwiches, really interesting soda variety, plenty of bottled beers you will love, and more brands of chips than I have ever laid eyes upon and cool kinds, not your average grocery store variety. Cannot wait to try the a Rachel and quinoa salad. Get them pressed and try their homemade bread! High quality meats and cheese. Only thing better would be more wrap options (they just have flour) but staff is extremely kind and patient.

Oh man, every single item on their menu is outstanding. Tomato basil soup is the best I've had. Great service & awesome drink selection from unique sodas to craft beers to house wines. Best lunch spot in Safety Harbor!

I've only been here once so far, but it was great! I got the grilled cheese and they let you pick what cheese and bread you want which I like. The potato chips are good too and the food came out quickly. I must say though that there is very little seating both in doors and outdoors so maybe try going on an off hour. The restaurant was very clean and employees were nice. Next time I'm craving a grilled cheese, I know where to return to!

Looking for a new fav. spot? This might be the place. It's hip....they have a very cool selection of specialty beers and sodas, the sandwiches are packed with meet, there's no skimping here, and large enough that you can take the other half home with you. Very cool, market/deli style decor and very friendly staff.

Stumbled upon this lovely place today. Great food, great value, awesome locale. Safety Harbor itself is a very neat little town, with lots of pretty places about. The Sandwich is no exception. I got the Cuban which was superb, best Cuban I've ever had (and I'm a Cuban, FROM Hialeah [Cuba 2.0, in Miami). Huge sandwich, great presentation, amazing and very caring service. Will definitely come back!

Super cute sandwich shop in small town USA. There is a cute little sitting area in the back with a half a dozen or so tables. They have an extensive menu of...you guessed it...sandwiches. Some with a fun twist and many traditionals. They have a huge selection is specialty drinks, all bottled or canned. Quite a few sodas, tea, etc. which was nice to see. All kinds of flavors to try; something different than the average Coke/Diet Coke/etc. Excellent chocolate chip cookies as well!

My daughter & I went to Sandwich on Main today for lunch. Amazing!! She had chicken sandwich w golden raisins and Gouda, while I had half of the turkey sandwich with Brie and cranberries and a side tomato balsamic salad. Everything was fresh and SO delicious. Service was fantastic. I can't wait to go back again.

I ride my bike down here with my kids all the time! The main cheese is our favorite! I love that the kids get apple sauce with their sandwiches! They have a great beer selection, and speciality sodas! The cheese bread that they make fresh is stellar! The staff is friendly and the environment is funky and clean. It's a great place to eat outside too!

All I can say is the BEST rueben sandwich I have ever had. I have been here 4 times and I keep getting the rueben because it really is that good. I also really enjoy the specialty sodas, ginger ales and beers they have. Best sandwich around.

I love sandwich shops. And since a place specializes in sandwiches I have a high high expectation for quality and a diverse healthy menu. I found both somewhat lacking here. You definitely feel like you're in a boutique delicatessen as soon as you enter with their poised bottles of wine and other expensive culinary goodies adorning the wall. A pleasant person in pressed white chef's attire greets you beyond the counter ready for any questions. The professionally scripted menu on a chalkboard was a nice touch. There is a small room in the back with a couple of tables for eating without having to bother with tipping a waitress. The sandwiches were okay - just OHkay - not the super high quality that I was expecting given the fancy layout. I was mostly disappointed in the lack of healthy options.I don't eat red meat or pork or chicken so my only option was a vegan spread - I'm not a vegan but I went with it figuring it would be slightly healthy. It was just beans in a tortilla! Again, this is a shoppe specializing in sandwiches- they should have plenty of health-conscious creative options for every kind of taste. My boyfriend is a meat eater though and his pork sandwich was just 'meh.' Again, we were expecting AH-mazing and they did not deliver for either of us.
